Boosted… Ok so the three dots are a little dramatic; I basically have no symptoms other than 30% more fatigue, but that could also be the crash from my 5 delonghi espresso shots I had before 3 pm. The point being, I never even bothered to take my camera out of the bag. Instead, I took a picture of my desk cause I like my laptop stand even though I know it may be the most useless of office-desk accessories.

Tomorrow I dive into after effects so I can learn to how to animate things, because apparently people who know how to work with cameras and lights and can film things as well as edit them, color grade them, edit the audio for them, and export them in high quality are so easy to come by, that it might as well be like telling a company you know how to write your name real good. Not kidding, it’s genuinely not enough anymore. If you don’t also have some skills in UI/UX, graphic design, or animation, you’re basically the creative equivalent to single-ply toilet paper. But then again, in the great democratization of content, we sort of all knew this was coming. It used be only the wealthy and the nobles who could expand their talents enough to write verse and prose. Then came the democratization of the almighty pen, and now we have people like Rupi Kauer selling books of poetry that looks like this:

“Democratization is

Not democracy. My pen

bleeds life anew, into

the sorrow

of another day having to read

drivel like this.”

So, as the camera becomes the pen of this new era, wherein making videos is just another way to express oneself, rather than a mountainous task with inherent obstacles, people like me will be both needed more than ever (every company needs videos, right?) and regarded as common currency (my nephew makes videos for 7000 followers on Tiktok, and this guy wants how much for his salary?)

The lesson from this? Stop thinking that line-breaks make something a poem. This isn’t a meme, I’ve read one of the books. This lady is a robber baron in poet’s clothing. (But obviously if it affected you in some way or meant something to you, etc. etc. I, nor anybody else, can take that away from you and I’m happy that you got something out of the otherwise unbelievable rip-off that is paying full price for one of those books.)

See you tomorrow and hope you had a good Monday.

Nick
