First full day riding solo in the apartment. Despite my significant other’s rude and outrageous assumptions, the place is still in fact clean, and I do in fact still have clothes on my back and food for my tummy. The wide halls and open spaces, silent breezes and spacious corners, it all calls out for a kind of introspection, doesn’t it? Which is probably why I spent the day cranking up music to make sure that didn’t happen. Loud music, a lot of chess and rage-quitting, and mostly just a bunch of work.
And oh are the assignments (projects, whatever you want to call it) rolling in. The real onboarding is never the meet and greet, is it. It’s when people you didn’t even know you were supposed to meet reach out with functions you didn’t even know you were supposed to have, using platforms you didn’t even know the company used. It’s when everyone gets wind there’s a new chump to take care of client A B and C’s unceasing requests and revisions while they can finally go grab a smoke on the terrace. This is all of course a highly stylized and largely fictional account of what it’s actually been like for myself, but the seed of the “real onboarding through experience” is obviously true.
And I have to say, after being a couch potato the last 12 days or so, I am excited to get back on the reading and writing grind. The last revisions on my Master Thesis (maybe I’ll talk about it in more detail later, probably not) are just about finished, and I’m beyond pumped to read hella novels this year, and hopefully even write one. Goodness knows this blog is at least keeping my keyboard familiar to these small, rapidly moving hands. I’ve had ideas before, and I’ve even started writing other things before, but this one is different, and I can’t wait to at least be able to say I finished something. And with a statement like that, it’s gon be hella embarrassing if I let it fall through like some other things from my past (cough cough a certain short film cough).
Anyway, it’s 3am as of writing (although this will be published the next day for maximum ratings) and I have my alarm set for 5am so I can catch the Nadal vs. Berretini Australian Open Semifinals. Y’all know I want the king of clay to become hyper goated by breaking the record for most grand slams.
See you in a couple hours.
