Yo, I meant to get so much more done today it’s actually embarrassing. Nothing worse than letting yourself down, and if this keeps up, I may have to diagnose myself with long-covid simply to justify and rationalize my utter failure at keeping my most important resolution: time-management.

I did order some new books though, since my first payday was yesterday. Picked up the entire Song of Ice and Fire series, figured I might as well experience what everyone is still talking about, even beyond the show. And who knows, maybe Martin will finish it up and I’ll be able to hop on the final installment(s) asap when he does. I also picked up a book I’ve been eyeing since my senior year of college called The North Water. All I know about it is that it’s a neo-realist novel set in the mid-1800s, and includes whaling, a surgeon, and some kind of manhunt. I truly don’t know what else you could want. Then finally I picked up Blindsight, which is supposed to be some kind of first-contact, hard sci-fi creepshow, and was recommended to me by a friend. All in all, not a bad haul.

Also, it’s just worth noting that sites like Thriftbooks and Bookdepository (which I use) and who knows how many other similar ones, help out actual bookstores if you can’t go out to one yourself. I don’t hate Amazon like some people, in fact I sort of even enjoy it. Hell, one could say I even like it, full stop. But for books? I don’t like the idea of bookstores being some schedule-when-you-can-make-the-drive-to-the-closest-one kind of experience. Barnes and Noble? Y’all know I dig it. The whole industry of book-storism is too endangered for me to take a stand against a company just because it’s a “giant” in the space. B&N is goddamn awesome. But so are any local bookstores you can find. Which, to finally give myself the reach-around I needed to get to this point, is why something like bookdepository is dope. Also peep if your local stores do shipping for themselves, too. But what am I, some kind of activist? I ordered like 4 books off Amazon last month. I get it. It just always felt so naughty.

Lastly, I got the N64 expansion thing for the nintendo switch, and I’ve been going heavy on mario tennis. If anyone knows how to hit purple shots, or otherwise just how to beat yoshi in the flower cup through any means possible, please reach out.

See you tomorrow,

Nick
