A typical Saturday as far as Saturdays ago. I won’t lie to you, this post, and the next four, are coming from a single batch of writing since yes I am human and yes I let some negative habits get the best of me for a couple days. However, I do happen to remember almost everything about this fine day, so enough with the meta-analysis.
To start the day off, I got some weird notifications from Paypal that something was up. Those douchebags locked my account because I refused to give them any info about myself in Germany since I got here and registered an account. This fine country being as Kafkaesque as any bureaucrat could stand, such ‘voluntary’ releases of data turn out to mandatory, after all. But, a heartburn pill here, a game of Mario Tennis on the N64 Switch app there, and I was on to my next thing, which was booking train tickets to Brussels for ‘class trip’! Anyone ever see Eurotrip? If you have, do not tell my girlfriend I just made that reference.
A few months back, in summer 2021, I helped host and organize a University and academic event about Populism trends and their implications in democratic societies etc, etc. Turns out, we landed significantly under budget for the event, since the budget was approved in 2019, and back then, a little company called Zoom had no idea its greedy little paws would get so fat with cash due to a global outbreak. Am I being too indirect? We saved a lot of money by not having to host the thing in person, there. So what did we do? We planned an ‘informative’ class trip to the hub of the U.N. in Brussels, which the school was happy to let us do with the remaining funds. Waffles and booze, here we come baby.
See you tomorrow (just accept the lie, please.)
