What goes up, must come down. The winter’s last gasps of chilled air have returned to wreak havoc on all of those who thought it safe to start going outside without a jacket. It legitimately might snow this weekend here. A brutal change of events, especially since the sweetness of spring has already been tasted.

Wish I could say this Thursday was anything resembling exciting. Snapped a couple photos through the kitchen window at just-after-dusk, when the whole apartment, lights off, still had that Roger Deakins natural glow of leftover light. It’s a cool style, and often goes unappreciated for simply being ‘too dark’, but if we had always thought that way, I guess we could kiss the works of Da Vinci or Caravaggio goodbye. But then again, Deakins’ work has made probably billions of dollars total (Shawshank Redemption, Big Lebowski, A Beautiful Mind, Jarhead, No Country for Old Men, Skyfall, Prisoners, Sicario, Blade Runner 2049, 1917, and about a hundred other Coen Brothers movies). So maybe when I say ‘unappreciated’, I actually mean ‘please don’t listen to me about anything, these are the ramblings of man whose touch is no longer upon reality or the sanity of his own mind, how many times do I have to remind you?’ But then again, on blind camera tests for smart phones, a brighter picture wins over a picture with more dynamic range or accurate color science the vast majority of the time, in terms of popularity. I could link the videos I’m talking about, by Youtuber MKBHD, but maybe you don’t need your hand held for every single step.

Read a bunch, had waaaaay too much tiramisu, which kept me up like half the night because that’s seriously how much I ate, and fantasized about throwing my laptop like a frisbee off my balcony. But hey, there’s time to complain about that tomorrow.

See you then,

Nick
